What is Tencel?
Tencel is a man-made fabric manufactured from the wood and cellulose of sustainably harvested Eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus trees grow quickly without the need of irrigation, pesticides, fertilizers or genetic manipulation. It can also be planted on marginal land (land with little industrial or agricultural value) which cannot be used for crops.
How is Tencel made?
Tencel is made by transforming eucalyptus wood pulp intro fibres via a chemical process. The revolutionary aspect of Tencel manufacturing has made this chemical process eco friendly. This is done by recovering and reusing up to 99.8% of the solvent and remaining emissions by breaking them down in biological water treatment plants. Not only that but the fibre yield per acre is up to 10 times higher than that of cotton and requires up to 20 times less water!
Why wear Tencel clothes?
Tencel has an ultra fine fibre structure meaning it's great to wear. It's silky smooth resulting in great comfort as well as being breathable and 100% biodegradable. Tencel is an easy care fabric meaning it can be washed on short, cool settings, has brilliant colour retention and doesn't require any fabric softener as it already has this natural quality - great for your bank account and the environment! The silky nature of the fabric means that it can be hung dry without the need to ironing - our 100% Tencel shirts are the perfect easy wear addition to your wardrobe!
